Water Logic <2>

The most interesting thing for me about improvisation is that I can observe my mental state by noticing the reaction inside of me to the situation.
I make a kind of image of each concert in advance, but when it actually starts, something unexpected happens, I throw away all my ideas at once, my mind relaxes, leave myself to the situation, and then all my senses start working.
I love that state.
It's the most exciting moment for me.

Water Logic

I named the music I'm trying to make Water Logic.
Last week, one of my friends said
" Yoko, I think "Improvisation"is not suitable word for explaining your music.
I know you are doing improvised music, but the word Improvisation has been used too widely, and it's difficult for you to explain what you are doing precisely."
So I thought again about the music which I do.
It's true that I don't have the vocabularies which were developed from modern classical music and jazz.
I don't do dramatic playing which wakes you up.
All I can do is to find the place where the phenomenon comes from instinctively.
I resonate with that place, and produce sound in the surrounding space.
I don't limit myself to any kind or form of music.

I want to play music which keeps its transparent essence like water, and fills any vessel( space) and
makes it live.

Walking <1>

The "Kotsu Kaikan" is a retaurant with a fine view shaped like a hat, at the top of a building in Ginza.
I went there because I read in a book that the restaurant turns round a complete turn in a hour.
While I was reading a book, and drinking a cup of coffee, the landscape slowly changed.
The Printemps Department Store, a lot of railroad tracks running from Yurakucho Station to Tokyo
Station, silhouettes of people behinds nets swinging clubs to practice golf, green among snow...
The time seemed to pass so slowly that the landscape looked like scenes in a movie.

One-side Love<2>

I did a collaboration with a painter, Isao, at a studio in NY 4 years ago.
He painted pictures in a booth while listening to my piano playing through headphones, and I played piano while looking at him painting pictures through window of the booth.
I recorded not only my piano playing but also the sound of him painting in the booth.
At first, I put it on a CD as a piano solo, but I felt it was not complete.
Recently, I tried to make another master, which I mixed with the sound of me playing the piano and the sound of him painting.
I felt it waas perfect, and I think it's finally finished.

One-sided Love <1>

I've yearned for him for a long time, but he seemed not to notice me, so I almost gave up, but recently I felt that I had found the way to get in touch with him, so I'm exicited now!
I I can see signs of spring between my computer and me.
Last week, I finally learned how to change music source to WAV or mp-3, and today, I edited one of my music files which was 40minutes long, to 15minutes.
Actually, I have to make a music of about 3minutes long out of it, but anyway, that's enough for me today.
I made a folder named "Editing", and put my work in it.
I'm happy now...
