Seiji Fujishiro Exhibition

On the 26th of May, I went to a Seiji Fujishiro exhibition held in the Calpis head office building.
Admission was free. Before the exhibition, I imagined that there would just be a few pictures in the lobby, but in fact, 80 pieces of his work were being displayed in an arrangement planned by the artist.
I've often seen his pictures not only on packages of Calpis but also in magazines and picture books, but when I actually saw his works, I was surprised at not just the beauty of the shapes, the elaborateness and reality of his works, and very impressed with the mysterious world filled with energy which was created by light and shadow.
The artist, who will be 80 years old this year, has been making art in his own way since he met and was moved by Indonesian shadow plays.
"Maybe it's the time I spend playing with cats and dogs". He answered when he was asked "What is the source of your creativity? " in VTR.
I found there were sweet-faced, mischivous-looking cats in almost all of his pieces.

・・・

I got told I was singing loudly in my sleep yesterday.
What kind of dream was I having ??

I went to a lecture by Ferdinand Richard last week.
I was interested in his point of view on his activity in the music scene, and impressed by his lifestyle and the way he's expanding his activities on a global scale.

Kamakura

On the 17th, I went to Kamakura. I met up with Aoi at Shinjuku station in the morning.
We left for Kita-Kamakura on the "Shonan-Shinjuku Line"to Izu.
We saw a Meigetsu- In, with the hydrangeas not in bloom, but which was covered with fresh green all around, and it felt refreshing.
The Kamakura Museum of Modern Art has a terrace facing a pond. The view from the terrace was marvellous !!
The pond was covered with lotus leaves, and was lively with the sounds of something splashing, and many kinds of birds flying in. The sunshine waving on the water made a reflection of the pond on the ceiling of the terrace. As we gazed at the pattern of the water gradually changing, we forgot the time passing by.
Then we went to Yuigahama on foot.
I felt very happy surrounded by the scent of the salt breeze and the sound of the waves.
I think maybe it's because I lived beside the sea when I was a child.
I stood on the beach, and looked out to sea for a while.

Too many things in my room !!

The day before yesterday, I finished reading the mystery "Coffin Dancer", and started reading " The Blue Nowhere".
Since yesterday, I've been clearing up all the books on the bookshelf, all the Mini Discs, and the CDs I put on the floor. I almost regretted taking all of them out like that because I was staggered by the huge quantity of different kinds of things, but as I threw unnecessary stuff into sacks, I got the rhythm, and finally, the room became a simple and functional space.
I felt refreshed in my mind and body.

The concert with Alexis

On the 1st of May in the afternoon, I had a small concert with Alexis, who came from France to play a few concerts, at "Violon".
At first, I played improvised music with Alexis as a duo, and Kanji, who is a trombone and clarinet player, joined us as a trio, and then Alexis and Izumi, who is a musical saw player, started playing as a duo. When another player joined in, one of the players who had been playing as a duo, gradually left. The people kept joining in and left.
After a short break, Alexis and Yoshihiro, who is a sax player, and I played two pieces of my music, and then we played improvised music all together.
At the end, I played a piece of music which I had composed the day before, as a duo with Alexis.
It was an exciting experience because the music was being created in the interaction between the players and the audience.
It was relaxing atomosphere, and I was able to enjoy playing freely.

A Lecture

I thawed out a frozen Anpan, and ate it. The bean paste was hot, and it tasted fantastic !!

On the 24th of April, I went to a lecture by Jim O'rouke, but he didn't appear on time.
The cordinator tried to contact him by calling the hotel where he was staying, and his staff looked for him around the building, but Jim wasn't anywhere. .
In the end, he managed to get hold of Jim, and found out that Jim thought it was the next day.
2 hours and a half later, Jim came in hanching his shoulders in embarrassment.
His talking was frank and plain, but also deep and left a strong impression.
